What Exactly Does A Shingle Warranty Cover?

Whether you’re a home or business owner in Weston, Plantation, Davie, or other areas around Miami, you may be curious about shingle warranties and what they cover. Considering the often volatile weather, it’s good to be aware of what you can expect, should you be a victim of roof damage.  Additionally, what should you do if your shingles experience damage not covered by the warranty?

It’s important to note that there are two types of shingle warranties; one for the roofing materials or other components offered by the manufacturer, and one offered in regards to repairs, re-installation, and general work performed by the contractor – a workmanship warranty.

Manufacturer’s warranty

Typically, manufacturers’ shingle warranties cover various roofing materials used in shingling the roof. Time limits can vary from 5 to 10 years, or even as long as 15, 25, or 50 years. These limits may apply to different components of the system as well, so it’s important to know all about the company/brand you choose before you make a final decision. Also be aware that certain things can void your warranty.

Workmanship warranties

Workmanship warranties aren’t offered by every company, and some even offer limited coverage. Depending on the company/brand you choose, some contractors may become licensed, certified installers of the highest quality products and offer a warranty that covers a portion or the entire cost of repair or re-installation.

What don’t shingle warranties cover?

In most cases, standard warranties won’t cover shingles that fail or break down because of improper installation, or for extras including vents, underlayment, flashing, ice and water shield, etc. Additionally, you’ll find that most basic warranties will not cover the removal/disposal labor charges.

Another important fact to keep in mind: Most shingle roofs last an average of 20 years. However, GAF products are of unmatched quality, so you can expect your shingled roof to hold up for far longer with a GAF label than with other well-known brands.

The difference is in not only the quality of products, but expert installation as well. Even in the unfortunate event a hurricane is forecast, professionals who are knowledgeable and skilled are highly aware of the special circumstances and unique requirements for those living in areas surrounding Miami including Plantation, Davie, and Weston.
