Why Architectural Shingles Are Not All Equal

architectural shingles

Architectural style shingles are an extremely popular roofing option in Miami, FL. That comes as no surprise, considering the beauty and structural qualities of architectural shingles. Also known as laminated or dimensional shingles, the architectural style is dramatically elegant, durable, and comes with extensive warranties.

However, one thing you may not know is that architectural shingles differ from each other, even when manufactured by the same company. Here is why;

Some imitate shakes, others slate

Although all architectural roofing shingles have a 3-dimensional appearance, there are two distinct styles to choose from.

The first category consists of shingles that simulate cedar wood shakes. These include Certain Teed’s Presidential Shake and the Presidential Shake TL. The Presidential Shake TL, for instance, represents the industry’s thickest, toughest, and heaviest shingle featuring sculptured tabs that resemble the old world wood shake but more durable and less costly.

The second category comprises shingles that imitate slate roofing. These include Certain Teed’s Grand Manor, Symphony Slate, and Carriage House. Symphony Slate for instance is a masterpiece of synthetic slate, combining natural beauty and harmony with tooled craftsmanship that makes the shingles a lighter but more durable product. Available in 6”, 9”, and 12” sizes, these shingles do not require additional roof support as ordinary slate would.

Color and texture

Architectural shingles also come in a wide range of colors and textures. Three common options are the Mountain Ridge, the Shangle Ridge, and the Shadow Ridge.

The Mountain Ridge hip provides a perfect roof with high profile design and blended color – an addition that strikes from a far. Blended color creates a unified appearance instead of a stripped appearance with the rounded edges giving the roof a substantially finished look.

Shangle Ridge shingles are more about style. If you like letting your home define who you are, the Shangle Ridge will do that perfectly. It’s available in an array of colors. CertainTeed Shangle Ridges comprise two full layers and are pre-cut for easy installation.

Shadow Ridge shingles offer elegant finishes to hips and ridges on your roof.
